South Indian Wedding Photographer Arizona: Ramya + Srikant

Ramya and Srikant met as undergraduates at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. This place proved to be special for more reasons than one as it also served as the backdrop for Srikant’s surprise proposal last year.

Any time Srikant records a new song, he always lets Ramya listen to it first. He used this to his advantage to add an element of surprise as he planned the proposal. Srikant asked Ramya to join him on a trip back home to the Philly suburbs one July weekend in 2011. After spending some time with his family at home, they all decided to head into the city to enjoy the gorgeous afternoon. One by one, Srikant’s parents and sister happened to leave early, but not before promising to re-join the group for dinner downtown later that evening.

Before they knew it, it was just Ramya and Srikant passing the time walking through Penn’s campus and giving themselves a tour down memory lane. The tour ended in Perelman Quadrangle when Srikant asked Ramya if she wanted to hear the latest song he had written. As the song started to play, Ramya teased him and asked if the song was about her, and Srikant confidently responded yes. Ramya didn’t pay much attention to his answer, having experienced similar but false claims before. But to her surprise, the words of this song reminded her of herself and Srikant. Ramya was moved by the words, but also confused because every time she would look over at Srikant, he would avoid her gaze and look in the other direction. For his part, Srikant wanted to make sure Ramya listened to the entire song before either of them had a chance to speak. Finally, once the song was over, Srikant got down on one knee and cast all of her doubts aside – he proposed!

As Srikant slipped the ring on her finger, Ramya noticed him looking over to his right and smiling. When she turned, she saw Srikant’s sister, Vandana, walking towards them and capturing the entire moment on camera. Soon afterwards, Ramya, Srikant, and Vandana arrived at one of Ramya’s favorite Philadelphia restaurants for dinner, and she saw Srikant’s parents pull up to the restaurant with her family! Her parents, sister, and niece flew in from all over the country to be there for the special day. After rounds of hugs and congratulations, they were greeted by some of their best friends who joined them for the celebratory dinner at Victor Cafe. When retelling the story to the group, Ramya realized the proposal moment itself was a blur but luckily the words are set to music if she ever needs a reminder. They were able to share the special moment with their family and friends when the first dance at their wedding reception was set to this song.  So Sure.

Enjoy the pictures that Sonia and I had the absolute pleasure of capturing and creating a life time of memories for Ramya & Srikant!
